Stop food waste day
30 April 2025
Started in 2017 by Compass Group USA, Stop Food Waste Day is now recognised globally in every corner of the world as we unite to educate, inspire, and ignite change.
Our mission is to ignite change regarding the global food waste problem. We do this by drawing attention to the issues, at the same time educating through engaging with society at all levels and sharing practical, creative, and impactful ways we can all change our behaviour to reduce food waste.
We recognise that food waste is not only a moral issue, but a key contributor to climate change too. Wasting food is a waste of the energy to grow, harvest, process and cook and food waste in landfill can cause methane emissions, a potent greenhouse gas.

Oliver’s has been working with Waste Knot since 2022!
Waste Knot works alongside the traditional way of doing things, but gives growers a new market for their surplus and chefs the challenge and reward of making great food from seasonal ingredients.
Most of the rescued food is made up of the familiar staples, but Waste Knot also aims to find purpose for the parts of the plant that are usually discarded.
Oliver’s has been partnering with Olio since 2022!
Our partnership has allowed us to redistribute surplus food to local communities, helping to reduce food waste and support sustainability goals.
We are able to distribute various food items, including hot meals, snacks, and pre-packaged goods, to those in need. The partnership also provides environmental benefits, such as reducing carbon emissions and water usage, and supports corporate social responsibility objectives.
